The stations also belong to the same company

  • RadioTunes (formerly Sky.fm ), which covers the spectrum beyond electronic music,
  • JazzRadio.com , which covers the area of jazz and blues,
  • RockRadio.com , which offers various styles of rock music, as well
  • ClassicalRadio.com with styles of classical music and
  • ZenRadio.com with music to relax and meditate.
  • Fresca Radio , which specializes in Latin American and Caribbean music, was discontinued at the end of 2015. A number of former Fresca radio channels were taken over by RadioTunes and went on air on January 18, 2016.

history

It was founded on December 6, 1999 by Ari Shohat, who pursued the aim of making imports of trance and techno music from Europe more easily available to the American public via the Internet. He wanted to ensure the increasing spread and acceptance of this style of music in the USA . The program was initially broadcast over a 56 kbit / s connection and initially consisted of a single channel, the trance channel . However, this was soon expanded to include other channels that broadcast music in the related styles of hard trance and eurodance . The number of music styles on offer has been continuously expanded, and the available data bandwidth has been continuously increased. DI.FM grew into a market-leading web radio empire alongside Accuradio and Live365 , which now covers almost the entire range of electronic music styles. In the meantime, around 90,000 listeners listen to the 91 stations at peak times, including those of the sister station RadioTunes.

Business

Although the company is profit-oriented, the sale of advertising and audio streaming subscriptions does not generate enough income to cover all expenses such as data traffic and maintenance of the servers . According to its own information, the company is dependent on the work of volunteers as well as donations from sponsors. (Source: website)

The station is a company registered in New York State "Digitally Imported, Inc." The responsible managing director of DI.FM and RadioTunes is still the founder Ari Shohat.

broadcasts

The most famous programs on DI.FM are the weekly A State Of Trance by Armin van Buuren and Future Sound of Egypt by Aly & Fila on the Trance Channel , which are also broadcast on many other radio stations around the world. The longest-serving show, on the other hand, is "Tranceformation" (formerly Trance-N-Motion in partnership with Tommaso De Donatis), presented by the German DJ Ciacomix, who has been part of the Digital Imported team since 2000. He was also one of the first DI.FM DJs to go live on the air.

In principle, every DJ or producer can apply to DI to publish their productions, which - provided they meet the quality requirements - will be included in the track rotation.

An important, recurring highlight are live broadcasts from clubs or events, where a video stream is also often offered, which, like the pure audio stream, can be received free of charge.

The current monthly program can be found in the DI.FM event calendar.
