A student from Innsbruck gave the reference to Meiwes because of a suspicious advertisement by the cannibal on the Internet. Meiwes, who also filmed the killing and eating of the body parts of Brandes, is arrested.

- Jerusalem / Israel : conscientious objectors fail with a complaint to the Supreme Court.
- Beijing / China : Gerhard Schröder is visiting.
- Philippines : Four dead in a bomb attack.
- Puerto La Cruz / Venezuela : The tanker Amazonian Explorer enters the port of the city. President Hugo Chávez travels from Caracas , 200 km away , to oversee the unloading of 525,000 barrels (83,000 m³) of gasoline . Because of the strike at the state oil company Petróleos de Venezuela , gasoline is rationed.
