  • Gibraltar : The administration of the overseas territory of the United Kingdom has the population vote in a non-binding referendum on whether they should start negotiations on the division of sovereignty between the United Kingdom and its immediate neighbor, Spain . A large majority is against the division. In its current constitution, Gibraltar is a so-called “ tax haven ”.

  • Vienna / Austria : The early National Council election ends with a victory for the ÖVP and a debacle for the FPÖ . The ÖVP has increased by more than 15% compared to 1999 . In contrast, the vote share of their former coalition partner FPÖ falls by almost 17% to around 10%. This time the SPÖ becomes the second strongest force with around 37% of the votes.
