The city is located about 34 km west of the regional capital Krasnoyarsk in the middle of a taiga landscape. At this point the mana flows into the Yenisei . This tributary is 500 km long and very popular for rafting . Due to its location on the foothills of the eastern Sayan Mountains , Divnogorsk also got its name, which literally means "the city next to the beautiful mountains".

Divnogorsk forms an urban district which , in addition to the actual city, also includes the village of Ovsyanka and the six settlements of Bakhta, Chmelniki, Manski, Slisnjowo, Ust-Mana and Verkhnyaya Biryussa.

history

Divnogorsk was established in 1957 as a construction workers' settlement for the construction of the Krasnoyarsk reservoir . In the 19th and early 20th centuries there was initially a hermitage with a small landing stage on the Yenisei, later a children's home and forestry.

In 1963 Divnogorsk was granted city status, and four years later the hydroelectric power station, for the construction of which the reservoir was created, was put into operation. The power plant was completely completed in 1971.

The main operation of the city is still the Krasnoyarsk hydropower plant , which is the second largest of its kind in terms of production volume (after the Volgograd hydropower plant ) in Russia. Divnogorsk also has various industries. These include wood processing, reinforced concrete production and the electrical industry.

In recent times, Diwnogorsk has also developed as a tourist resort , which is mainly due to the favorable conditions for winter sports that prevail here . There are three ski slopes with lifts and a hotel near the town. These slopes are particularly popular among the residents of the nearby metropolis of Krasnoyarsk as a winter recreational area.

Divnogorsk is located on the Russian trunk road M 54 and has a ship landing stage. The city is also connected to Krasnoyarsk by a railway line.

Attractions

There are very few wooden structures in Divnogorsk that existed before the city was founded. A two-story former church building, which is now used as an artist's workshop, still reminds of the former hermitage. There are also several striking natural monuments near the town, including the Stolby reserve with rock formations.
