Dobromyl (Ukrainian Добромиль ; Russian Добромыль , Polish Dobromil ) is a city in western Ukraine, 4 km from the Polish-Ukrainian border .
Dobromyl was first mentioned in writing as a village in 1374 and received town charter in 1566. Under the Austrian rule, which had existed since 1772, the city came to Galicia and was briefly from 1850 to 1854 and from 1876 to 1918 the seat of the district authority Dobromil , from 1867 the seat of a district court. After the First World War, the place came to Poland as Dobromil and was here from 1921 in the Lviv Voivodeship as the seat of the Powiat Dobromil of the same name . After the Soviet occupation of eastern Poland , the place became the seat of Ujesd Dobromil within the Drohobych Oblast , in January 1940 the capital of the Rajons Dobromyl / Dobromil . After the beginning of the German-Soviet War , Dobromyl was incorporated into the Generalgouvernement , Krakow district, and remained there until it was reconquered by the Red Army in the summer of 1944. The city was reintegrated into the Ukrainian SSR within the Soviet Union and remained until the dissolution of the same name Rajons became a capital of the Rajons in 1962. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, it has been part of the independent Ukraine.
In 1924 the previously independent village of Huczko (Ukrainian Гучко Hutschko ) was incorporated.

To the north of the place existed the Galicia-German settlement Engelsbrunn (divided into Oberengelsbrunn located to the west and Unterengelsbrunn located to the east), which was incorporated into what was then Dobromil in 1867 and is now part of the city of Dobromyl. The place was laid out in the course of the Josephine colonization in 1784, the last German-speaking inhabitants were resettled in 1940 on the basis of the German-Soviet border and friendship treaty .
