The Frank-Hann National Park (English Frank Hann National Park ) is a 676 km² national park in the Goldfields-Esperance region in southwestern Western Australia , Australia . The park is 100 km north of Raventhorpe and can be reached from the Brookton Highway at Lake King via gravel roads. It belongs to the Shire of Lake Grace Local Government Area .

history

Its name goes back to Frank Hann , an Australian explorer who explored the area in 1901.

flora

The park protects the inland sand plains with their typical heather and bush landscape . In many areas with deeper sandy soils , mallee is the predominant form of vegetation.

Eucalyptus species are common here: Eucalyptus gracilis , Eucalyptus eremophila , Eucalyptus pileata , Eucalyptus foecunda and Eucalyptus longicornis . The following Banksia species Banksia elderiana , Banksia lemanniana , Banksia media and Banksia violacea with their striking inflorescences are also common.

Casuarina , acacia and myrtle heather species, for example Melaleuca uncinata, are the predominant shrub species in thickets, among which orchid species, for example, grow. In the heathland areas, feather-flower bushes ( Verticordia ) of the species Verticordia chrysantha , Verticordia picta , Verticordia mitchelliana and Verticordia eriocephala are also remarkable with their showy flowers.

In the varied heath and bush setting a plurality of lizards found, including the types Christinus marmoratus (Marbled gecko), Crenadactylus ocellatus (Clawless Gecko) Ctenophorus (Crested Dragon), Cryptoblepharus plagiocephalus (callose-palmed shinning-skink) and the Egernia richardi (Bright Crevice Skink). But many frog species also inhabit this area, such as Myobatrachus gouldii , Pseudophryne guentheri and Limnodynastes dorsalis .

Birds such as the emu , the Graubart- and brown falcon , Hieraaetus morphnoides (Little Eagle), the crested pigeon , the Mulga Parrot , the Busch dove and Ardeotis australis (Australian Bustard) were all found within the park.

In addition, there are also a large number of mammals in the national park, such as the short-billed hedgehog , black-tailed pouch marten , Sminthopsis gilberti , a species of pouch mouse , honey bucket , the western gray giant kangaroo , the western Irmawallaby , Chalinolobus gouldii (Gould's Wattled Bat) and Notomys mitchellii (Mitchell's Hoppingii Mouse).
