history

Henfenfeld from the northeast

The name Henfenfeld is probably derived from Hamfenfeld, a field on which hemp used to be grown.

Prehistoric grave finds indicate that the Henfenfeld district was already in the late Bronze Age around 1200 BC. Was settled. The Freiling settlement was established in the 7th century AD .

On April 13, 1059, Henfenfeld was first mentioned in a document in connection with the Vogt of the Bishop of Bamberg . This had his castle east of the Hammerbach. The noblemen of the 11th century were followed by the Ministeriale , who lived here as feudal men of the Bamberg bishop until the end of the 14th century. Hartung von Egloffstein acquired the castle in the 15th century and in 1530 the rule came to the Pfinzing patrician family from Nuremberg , who from then on called themselves "Pfinzing von Henfenfeld" and adopted the old Henfenfeld coat of arms as a heart shield.

On May 4, 1553, the castle was set on fire and burned down completely. In the years after 1557 it was repaired again for the Pfinzing family - probably by the Nuremberg builder Paulus Beheim .

After their male line (Johann Sigmund Pfinzing) died out in 1764, the Haller von Hallerstein family inherited the manor. In 1817 the Nuremberg merchant Benedikt von Schwarz bought the castle, who also owned the goods in Artelshofen and Hirschbach .
