Huelgoat ( An Uhelgoad in Breton ) is a French commune in Brittany in the Finistère department with 1,449 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).

location

The place is in the Regional Nature Park Armorique ( French Parc naturel régional d'Armorique ), at the foothills of the mountain range Monts d'Arrée in a hilly and wooded area.

Morlaix is 24 kilometers north, Brest 53 kilometers west, Rennes 155 kilometers east-southeast and Paris around 450 kilometers east.

Huelgoat is remote from the main traffic routes. At Morlaix and Landivisiau the next exits are on the expressway E 50 ( Rennes -Brest) and regional train stations on the parallel railway line.

The nearest regional airports are at Brest and Rennes .

Attractions

Grotto d'Artus

The archaeological excavation site Camp d'Artus , probably the main site of the Osismier defeated by Julius Caesar in the Gallic War , and the Grotte d'Artus are located nearby. To the west of the hamlet of Le Cloître is the Menhir du Cloître . In the "Forest of Huelgoat" there are extensive collections of strangely shaped rocks, the so-called "Felschaos der Mill (Chaos du Moulin)", as well as the "Devil's Grotto (Grotte du Diable)", the "Silver River (Rivière d'Argent)" and the "Abyss (Gouffre)".
