The Jēkabpils District ( Jēkabpils novads ) is an administrative district in southeastern Latvia .

geography

The district belongs to the historical part of Sēlija . It extends southeast of the city of Jēkabpils. In the north and east the district is bounded by the Daugava . The area is flat. Numerous swamp lowlands are embedded. The largest of them is the approximately 9 km² Kraukļu purvs ( Latvian bog of Kraukļi ) in the area of ​​the municipality Ābeļi.

history

In 2009, the municipalities Ābeļi, Dignāja, Dunava, Kalna, Leimaņi, Rubene and Zasa merged to form the Jēkabpils novads administrative district. The administrative building is located in Jēkabpils (German Jacobstadt), although this city is not part of the novads (district).

population

The district is rural and sparsely populated. In 2018 it had 4682 inhabitants.
