Kiso- machi ( Jap. : 木曽町 ) is a town in Kiso-gun in Nagano Prefecture on the Japanese main island of Honshu .
geography
Kiso-machi is located in the Kisotal. The Kiso flows through the city center. The eastern edge of the urban area is dominated by the ridges of the Kiso Mountains . 12,952 people live on 476.06 km² (as of March 1, 2010). A total of nine other municipalities border Kiso-machi, seven of which are in Nagano Prefecture and two in Gifu Prefecture . These are the independent cities ( shi ) Ina , Gero , Matsumoto , Shiojiri and Takayama as well as the district city Agematsu and the villages ( mura ) Kiso-mura , Miyada and Ōtaki .
history
Kiso-machi was formed on November 1, 2005 by merging the formerly independent municipalities of Hiyoshi, Kaida, Kiso-Fukushima and Mitake. Kiso-Fukushima forms the central district of Kiso-machi.
traffic
The western section of the Chūō main line operated by JR Central runs through Kiso-machi , on which the three stations Harano, Kiso-Fukushima and Miyanokoshi are located in Kiso-machi. There is also an express bus connection to Shinjuku , which runs there and back twice a day.
Two national roads also lead through Kiso-machi. These are National Road 19 from Nagano to Nagoya and National Road 361 from Takayama to Ina. The last section of the latter, which was completed in February 2006, runs directly through the Kiso Mountains and thus shortens the distance from Kiso-Fukushima to Ina to about 20 km.
Educational institutions
The Kiso-machi sponsors five elementary schools and four middle schools. There is also a high school in Kiso-machi, which is supported by the prefecture. There are also two vocational schools ( senshū gakkō ), one for nursing and one for forestry, in Kiso-machi.
Sightseeing and tourism
In Kiso-Fukushima there is the Ontake volcano , which is considered to be the westernmost 3,000 meter high in Japan. There are also several ski areas. In the district of Fukushima there is a preserved old town.
