Administratively it is assigned to the canton of Le Perche (until 2015: canton of Droué ) and the arrondissement of Vendôme . The inhabitants are called Fontenellois .

La Fontenelle is located about 63 kilometers north-north-west of Blois on the Egvonne River , in the Le Perche countryside . La Fontenelle is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Le Gault-Perche in the north and northwest, Le Poislay in the north and northeast, Droué in the east and southeast, Boursay in the south and Couëtron-au-Perche in the west.
