UAE Team Emirates is a cycling team that rides under an Italian license until 2016 and under the license of the United Arab Emirates since 2017 . The seat of the team is in Swiss Lugano . Prior to the entry of the current main sponsor, the team was known as Lampre .
history
The long-standing main sponsor Lampre is an Italian building materials manufacturer. In 2005 the team merged with the Saeco team and received a new sponsor, the coffee maker Caffita , which was replaced by Fondital in early 2006 . In 2008 Lampre separated from the co-sponsor Fondital. From May 2008 through the end of 2009, NGC was the new co-sponsor of Lampre, in 2010 Farnese Vini co-sponsored it, and from 2011 through 2012 it was ISD . Merida has been the co-sponsor since 2013 . The team is based in Lugano, Switzerland .
After a dispute over the team's right to employ driver Diego Ulissi , who had been banned for doping , the team withdrew from the Mouvement Pour un Cyclisme Crédible in March 2015 . The MPCC was of the opinion that the internal rules of the MPCC precluded employment.
The team was the subject of an investigation by the Mantova Public Prosecutor's Office into alleged organized doping. While the proceedings against the team as such, the manager Saronni and some drivers were dropped in November 2015, the drivers Alessandro Ballan , Marzio Bruseghin , Pietro Caucchioli , Simone Ponzi , Massimiliano Mori , Manuele Mori , Paolo Bossoni , Marco Bandiera and the former coach Sergio Gelati continued. Except for Mori, these drivers were no longer employed by the team.
After Lampre had withdrawn as the main sponsor at the end of the 2016 season , the team was supposed to be registered with the UCI under the name TJ Sport with a Chinese license. After this licensing failed, the management secured new sponsors and the team was registered under the name UAE Abu Dhabi and license in the United Arab Emirates . In February 2017, the airline Emirates joined as a new sponsor, which also sponsors the soccer clubs Hamburger SV , Real Madrid , Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal FC . The partnership is initially designed for four years. This changed the team name to UAE Team Emirates .
