The UCI World Tour in 2013 consisted of 29 cycling races , including the three-week tour Tour de France , Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España ( Grand Tours ), as well as major cycling classics , including the five monuments of cycling Milan-San Remo , Tour of Flanders , Paris-Roubaix , Liège – Bastogne – Liège and Giro di Lombardia . The competitions took place from January to October 2013. In each race, points were awarded for the final placement ( one-day race ) or the stage and overall placements ( stage races ), which were then offset into world rankings for drivers, teams and nations.

Participants were the specially licensed ProTeams . In addition, Professional Continental Teams can be invited by the respective race organizer. A national team from the host country is also entitled to participate in certain competitions such as the Tour Down Under in Australia or the Tour of Poland .

Teams

UCI ProTeams

The following ProTeams have been registered by the UCI for the UCI WorldTour 2013. The Katusha team did not receive a ProTeam license from the UCI World Cycling Federation for the 2013 season. After the World Sports Court CAS rejected the granting of a provisional license in an urgent procedure, Katusha applied for a license as a Professional Continental Team in order to be able to participate in international cycling races at all until the main decision of the CAS. The corresponding license was granted on January 15, 2013. On February 15, 2013, the CAS decided in the main proceedings that the Katusha team should be granted the World Tour license, whereupon the UCI decided on February 18, 2013 to exceptionally increase the number of ProTeams to 19, so that everyone else can do the same 18 teams kept their license.
