District of Romrod

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The district of Romrod (from 1829 district of Alsfeld ) was a district in the province of Upper Hesse of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . It existed from 1821 to 1832.

frame

In an administrative reform from 1820 to 1823, the offices in the Grand Duchy were dissolved. Until then, these were the responsibility of the state administration over the municipalities and they were at the same time generally the first instance in case law . District districts have now been established in the provinces of Starkenburg and Upper Hesse . These usually combined several previous offices. At the same time, jurisdiction and administration were separated . District courts have been set up for jurisdiction and district districts for administration.

commercial industry. Line weaving is particularly important in Alsfeld. A great deal of linen is prepared, and here is also the strongest wool manufacture, which is the most important in the Grand Duchy, and whose products consist of plain binary cloths and blankets, the former even being the same as the English ones. In Alteburg there is a cloth manufacture with wool machine spinning mills. In addition to the Kräß machines, this spinning mill is equipped with a coarse mill and several fine mills, the latter transforming the wool into the most perfect weaving yarn. Much duckbeard is made at Alsfeld, for which purpose a cotton surrogate made from tow was used especially earlier. In the former Grebenau office, a lot of linen, wool and cotton yarn is spun and a lot of packing cloth is made. In Felda, Storndorf, and Kestrich, too, much linen is manufactured, and in the first place there are many stocking weavers. Alsfeld also owns not insignificant dyeing and bleaching plants, as well as 3 tobacco factories and many tanneries, and successful attempts have been made with Saffian . The so-called Storndorfer Wasser and Storndoifer Liquener are prepared at Storndorf. In Schellnhausen there is an iron hammer, in Felda there are a lot of nail smiths and in Alsfeld there are several coppersmiths. The export of natural products is not strong, but that of art products is more important than woolen cloths of all kinds, stanets, plain, linen, ducklings, woven stockings, leather, fragrant water, fine liqueurs, iron goods, especially nails, etc. The residents of Storndorf deal heavily with earthen and wooden dishes. The 2 wool markets, as well as the weekly fruit market and the other markets favor trade, and put a lot of money into circulation along with the street trade. The Chanssee from Wetzlar to Cassel goes through Schellnhausen, Romrod, Alsfeld and Eifa, and that from Alsfeld to Lauterbach, through Brauerschwend. "
