The women's 100-meter hurdles at the 1999 World Athletics Championships was held from August 25 to 28, 1999 in the Olympic Stadium in the Spanish city of Seville .
The winner was the American world champion in 1995 and runner-up world champion in 1991 / 1993 Gail Devers . She also has 100 meters two-time Olympic champion ( 1992 / 1996 ) and world champion in 1993. American US Even with the 4 x 100-meter relay team had 1996 Olympic gold and 1997 World Cup won -Gold. Second place went to the Nigerian Glory Alozie . Bronze went to the Swedish defending champion and Olympic champion in 1996 Ludmila Engquist , who was already world champion in 1991 under her former name Ludmila Naroschilenko, at that time she had competed for the Soviet Union .

The existing world championship record was not set and not improved at these world championships.
However, the US world champion Gail Devers only narrowly missed this record in the final. With her 12.37 s she was only three hundredths of a second slower than Ginka Sagortschewa . Gail Devers set a new world annual high.
