history

War memorial in memory of the battles of the Slovak National Uprising

Lipovec was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1378 and was named after the linden trees that grew abundantly at the time. At that time, life was organized under German law by a bureau whose office was held by a Sillein citizen named Wylus . In 1439 the property came to the Lamos family , who kept it until the 19th century, but there were disputes with other owners such as the nobles of Vrútky, the Révay family and the rulers of the Strečno and Starhrad castles . In 1828 there were 30 houses and 152 residents who were mainly employed as farmers.

The place in Turz County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 , after which it became part of Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia. After the battles for the Strečno valley as part of the Slovak National Uprising , about three quarters of the place were set on fire by the Wehrmacht on September 5, 1944.
