The List of Singles on the Billboard Charts (1950) is a complete list of songs that made it onto the US charts published by Billboard in the 1950 calendar year .
When setting up it should be noted that the A and B sides of a sound carrier could also be placed individually in the Billboard charts; in this case they are listed separately in this list. The information on the number of weeks and the best placement correspond to the timeframe of the respective calendar year and thus only represent partial statistics. This year a total of 210 songs were placed.
In the early 1950s, public tastes changed; the audience wanted the softer and melodic music of the quartet vocal groups. In the first half of the decade, pop music dominated the charts. From singing dominated classic pop replaced Big Band - Swing , who arrived in the period after the end of World War II in the charts, even if used frequently orchestra to accompany the singers. Crooner in the style of the 1940-year competed with a new generation of singers, many of whom rely Bella traditions in Italian Canto. Mitch Miller , A&R man at the most successful label of the era, Columbia Records , set the tone for the development of pop music well into the middle of the decade. Miller incorporated country , western, rhythm & blues , and folk music into mainstream music by having many of his label's greatest artists record it in a style that was in keeping with pop traditions.
"Many jazz artists who were active in the 1950s will say that the rise of rock and roll marked the death of jazz as a form of pop music," wrote Nick Morrison. “While this observation may be true, it seems equally true that without jazz rock'n'roll would never have happened. At least it wouldn't have turned out the way it was. And the link between jazz and rock'n'roll is post-war rhythm and blues by artists like Louis Jordan , Roy Brown , Wynonie Harris and many others, most of whom come from the big band jazz and swing era ”. Songs of this era like "Ain't That Just Like a Woman" (Louis Jodran), "Good Rockin 'Tonight" (Roy Brown), "Hop, Skip & Jump" ( Roy Milton ), "All She Wants to Do Is Roc "(Wynonie Harris) and" Hucklebuck "by Pearl Bailey and Hot Lips Page were still influenced by jazz, and paved the way for rock 'n' roll.
