The List of Billboard Charts Songs (1948) is a complete list of songs that made it onto the US charts published by Billboard in the 1948 calendar year .
When setting up it should be noted that the A and B sides of a sound carrier could also be placed individually in the Billboard charts; in this case they are listed separately in this list. The information on the number of weeks and the best placement correspond to the timeframe of the respective calendar year and thus only represent partial statistics. This year a total of 163 songs were placed.
That year saw the debut of Redd Stewart and Pee Wee King's amiable hit "Tennesse Waltz," with which Eddie Cochran had a pop hit and Patsy Cline a country chart hit a little over a decade later . The nation's favorite songs that year included Frank Loesser's " On a Slow Boat to China " and "Baby, It 'Cold Outside," Kim Gannon's "I'm Be Home for Christmas," Jay Livingston and Ray Evans ' "Buttons and Bows ”, George Morgan's “ Candy Kisses ”and various hits from the Andrews Sisters and Frank Sinatra .
Thanks to the intermingling of Americans from different ethnic backgrounds and from different parts of the country during World War II, a new kind of music found its way into the radio stations in the rest stops and jukeboxes on the roadside in 1948 . A mix of white and black forms of music from the Mississippi Delta with country music popular across the country. When white pop music found its way in the immediate post-war period, rhythm and blues became rock'n'roll .
One of the most important changes in terms of changing musical tastes was another product from 1948, when the Californian instrument manufacturer Leo Fender released the first mass-produced electric guitar. Another invention from 1948 was the introduction of the 12-inch LP by engineers from Columbia Records . The larger, slower-playing LPs would eventually have more than half an hour of music on each side, enough to allow musicians to evolve beyond the one-hit-wonder formula. The 45 / min single followed soon afterwards, which drove the musical and cultural revolution in music.
The biggest hits of the year included "Manana" in the version by Peggy Lee , "Now Is the Hour" by Bing Crosby , "A Tree in the Meadow" ( Margaret Whiting ), "My Happiness" (in the versions by Jon & Sondra Steele and the Pied Pipers ), "You Can't Be True, Dear" ( Ken Griffin and Jerry Wayne ), "Little White Lies" ( Dick Haymes ) and "You Call Everybody Darlin '" ( Al Trace ). Art Mooney , Doris Day , Gordon Jenkins , Vaughn Monroe , the King Cole Trio , Kay Kyser , Gracie Fields , Francis Craig , the Andrews Sisters , Dinah Shore , Art Mooney, Arthur Godfrey , Ella Fitzgerald , were also successful in the US charts . Perry Como , Sammy Kaye , Tommy Dorsey , Spike Jones , Frankie Carle and Tex Beneke .

- ↑ Sometime in the early 1940s, a Jimmie Valentine is said to have sung briefly with the Will Bradley Orchestra and was from Texas. He was extremely popular in Texas and known for his vocalization of the popular Hoagy Carmichael song Stardust. Unfortunately, he never felt comfortable on stage and almost ran away every time he finished singing. This may be the same Jimmie Valentine.
