Stumbling blocks in Slatiňany

The list of stumbling blocks in Slatiňany lists the stumbling blocks that were laid in the town of Slatiňany . Stumbling blocks remind of the fate of the people who were murdered, deported , expelled or driven to suicide by the National Socialists . The Stolpersteine were designed by the Cologne artist Gunter Demnig and are usually laid by himself. They are mostly in front of the last self-chosen place of residence of the victim and are called stolpersteine in Czech , alternatively also kamy zmizelých (stones of the disappeared).

At the time of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia , 16 people of Jewish faith lived in Slatiňany. The first Jewish victim was Zikmund Klopper, who died in 1939 during interrogation. The first deportations took place on September 15, 1942, and the last on December 5, 1942. Marie and Rudolf Lengsfeld committed suicide and thus avoided the deportations. Only Max Stránský returned from the concentration camp. A memorial plaque in Slatiňany commemorates 20 people who lost their lives to the Nazis between 1938 and 1945, including 15 people of Jewish faith.
