List of flag ribbon awards to military units in the Federal Republic of Germany

This is a list of flag ribbon awards to military units in the Federal Republic of Germany . Both German ( Bundeswehr ) and foreign troops of allied NATO countries are awarded by the federal states (Prime Minister) or the Federal Republic of Germany ( Federal President ) . Awards are often given in the context of anniversaries, troop withdrawals, disaster relief or missions abroad - they are a sign of the long-term association of a government and its citizens with units that have made a contribution to integration into a democratic society. The award of a flag ribbon is a rare and the highest honor a country can bestow on a military association.
