About this picture

Ustersbach is a municipality in the Swabian district of Augsburg and a member of the Gessertshausen administrative community .

geography

Geographical location

Ustersbach is located in the middle of the Augsburg Western Woods Nature Park , approx. 25 km west of Augsburg . The geographic location of Ustersbach is shaped by the chain of hills that define the southern edge of the Reischenau . The Reischenau is a broad basin through which the river Zusam flows. Contrary to what the name might suggest, there is no stream in the municipality ; the only flowing waters are drainage ditches that drain water from the more humid parts of the parish corridor into the community. The highest of the hills, on the slope of which the community hugs, is called "Totenköpfle".

Parish parts

The municipality has 4 officially named municipal parts (the type of settlement is given in brackets ):

Neighboring communities

Neighboring communities are Kutzenhausen , Fischach and Dinkelscherben .

history

The place was probably created in the 11th century and was first mentioned in a document from 1277 as Usterspach . A local noble family and later the Augsburg monasteries Hl. Kreuz, St. Moritz and St. Katharina shared the goods of the village with the Augsburg Cathedral Monastery. Later the place passed to the cathedral monastery Augsburg, which was landlord, court lord and patronage lord. Around 1780 the remains of the wall of the Hattenberg castle stables were used to build the brewery in Ustersbach. As a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803, the place came to Bavaria. From 1862 to 1929 Ustersbach belonged to the district office of Zusmarshausen and from 1929 to the district office of Augsburg , which from 1939 was called the district of Augsburg .

coat of arms

The community has had a coat of arms since 1960 . It is described as follows: The coat of arms is divided into blue at the top and silver at the bottom. Against this background there is a jumping golden stag at the top and a growing red abbot's staff at the bottom.

The jumping golden stag refers to the family coat of arms of the Augsburg patrician family Stolzhirsch , which in the 13th century also owned the manor in Ustersbach in addition to various other fiefs. The Stolzhirsch family crest contained three golden deer jumping up in the blue shield. The abbot's staff is a reference to St. Fridolin , the patron of the parish church of Ustersbach, whose attribute is the abbot's staff. The colors in the lower half of the shield (red and silver) refer to the manorial rule of the bishopric of Augsburg.
