Maxim Integrated was founded on April 14, 1983 as Maxim Integrated Products Inc. by Jack Gifford (1941-2009) along with eight other semiconductor developers in Sunnyvale , California . Based on a two-sided business plan , start-up capital of 9 million US dollars was raised. In the first business year, 24 analog ICs were developed, but produced by other semiconductor manufacturers, from 1984 own production facilities were put into operation in order to be independent of other manufacturers. In 1987 Maxim Integrated broke even. Through the first acquisition, Maxim Integrated acquired its first major semiconductor fab in 1989. Annual sales of USD 100 million were first achieved in 1993. In January 2007 Tunç Doluca became Chief Executive Officer. Maxim Integrated acquired six companies between 2007 and 2010, thereby significantly expanding its engineering and production capacities. Annual sales exceeded USD 2.2 billion for the first time in 2010, while the first analog products were produced and marketed on 300 mm wafers .
