Michael Weber (born May 27, 1958 in Hamburg ) is a German actor , author and director .

Career

Michael Weber grew up in Schleswig-Holstein and, after dropping out of history studies in Berlin, received his training as an actor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Hamburg . After graduating in 1982, he was engaged at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. He also got his first film and television roles. In the following years, however, the focus of his work remained theater work. Numerous engagements followed at well-known theaters in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In addition, he played in numerous cinema and television films and was involved in many radio plays and feature productions, especially for Deutschlandfunk . Michael Weber has four children and lives with his family in Hamburg. He is married to the actress Ruth Marie Kröger .

Since 1985 Michael Weber has played at the Schauspiel Frankfurt (1985–1988 and 2002–2006), at the Staatstheater Stuttgart (1987–1989), at the Schauspielhaus Bochum (1991–1996), at the Residenztheater Munich (1987 and 2001), at the Schauspielhaus Zurich (1996/97), at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg (1996–2000 and again since 2013), at the Theater Basel (2005/06), at the Salzburg Festival (2005), at the Burgtheater Vienna (2000–2003), at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen (2006), as well as at the Schauspiel Köln (2007–2013).

Since 2013 he has been a permanent member of the ensemble of the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg in the directorship of Karin Beier , where he has since worked in the productions "Der Sturm", "Pfeffersäcke in Zuckerland / Strahlende Verunters", "Die Ratten", "Die Schule der Women ”,“ King Arthur ”,“ Pastor Ephraim Magnus ”and“ An attempt on puberty ”can be seen. There he realized u. a. the video films “Cowboy Canoe Coma” (2002) and “Last Ship Home” (2016) based on his own scripts and edited the book series “Construction sites”. In addition, from 2003 he developed the reading series “Vers- und Kaderschmiede” together with Thomas Ebermann in the Polittbüro Hamburg and took part in the series as an actor and speaker until 2015.

Film and TV

In 1982 Michael Weber starred in his first major television film "Fremdes Land" (director: Claus Peter Witt ) (ZDF, Germany and Canada). Since then he has appeared in other movies, such as “Die Reise” (director: Markus Imhoof ), “Die Denunziantin” (director: Thomas Mitscherlich ) and the wedding video (director: Sönke Wortmann ). He also worked for television, where he a. a. in “ Tatort ” as well as in individual episodes of well-known German TV series such as “ Großstadtrevier ”, “ Pastewka ” or “ Mord mit Aussicht ”.

Awards

In 1988 Michael Weber received the OE Hasse Prize from the Berlin Academy of the Arts , and in 2015 the DIDF Prize of Honor for his commitment to solidarity and brotherhood among peoples.

  • In 2014 his novel "Martha" was published , which is about life on St. Pauli in the 1980s.
