The Springebachtal nature reserve is a 17.89  hectare nature reserve (NSG) in the urban area of Winterberg east to south-east of Grönebach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It was designated as a NSG by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Winterberg landscape plan .

Geographical location

The NSG is located in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park and on the city limits from Winterberg to Medebach . It consists of two sub-areas: the larger the northwest portion ( ) starts right on the outskirts of Grönebach and moves upward along the Springebachs and the provincial road  827. On average some 1.5 km away is near the junction of this road from the L 740 and in the south of the latter, the smaller southeast part ( ), which has the headwaters of the Springebach; it borders in the southeast on the nature reserve Springebachtal (Medebach), which is located directly at the road junction . The north-western part of the NSG is part of the FFH area Wiesen in the Springebach and Hillebach valleys near Niedersfeld (DE 4717-304).

Habitats

The Wagenschmier swamp with the Springebach spring, located in the south-eastern part of the NSG, consists of fallow wet grassland, gray willow bushes and Kleinseggenried. The grassland is mostly grazed with cattle . In the NSG there are valuable and species-rich wet and wet meadows . The common snipe , which occurred until the beginning of the 1990s, no longer lives in the Springebach valley, where whinchat and meadow pipit occur.

Protection purpose and protection

The NSG was designated to protect the grassland and the stream. As with all nature reserves in Germany, the protection designation indicated that the area was declared a protected area “because of the rarity, special character and beauty of the area”. The main reason for protection is the maintenance and restoration of the biotope types and the protection of flora and fauna in the area.

In the meantime, the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation has purchased larger areas in the NSG Springebachtal at the request of the Association for Nature and Bird Protection in the Hochsauerlandkreis . These areas are cultivated extensively according to the specifications of the culture-landscape-maintenance program of the Hochsauerlandkreis.
