The Vinnytsia Oblast ( Ukrainian Вінницька область Vinnyzka oblast ; Russian Винницкая область Vinnitskaja oblast ) is an administrative unit of Ukraine in the west of the country. It has around 1.62 million inhabitants (2014).
geography
In the southwest the oblast borders the Republic of Moldova with a border length of 202 km; The river Dniester represents the borderline over large parts of the border. In the west, the Vinnytsia Oblast borders on the Chernivtsi and Khmelnyzkyi Oblasts , in the north on the Zhytomyr Oblast , in the east on the Oblasts of Kiev , Cherkassy and Kirowohrad and in the southeast on the Odessa Oblast .
The most important river is the Southern Bug , which flows through the oblast in a west-east direction. The working population comprises 65.4% of the total population.

history
The oblast was created by a regional reform on February 27, 1932 (after a resolution of February 9, 1932) when the oblasts of Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Kiev, Odessa and Vinnytsia were formed. On September 22, 1937, 33 districts of the Oblast were ceded to the newly created Kamianets-Podilskyi Oblast , at the same time the Oblast was expanded by four districts from the Kiev Oblast:
- Pohrebyschtsche Raion
- Plyskiv district
- Oratiw district
- Monastyryschtsche Raion (1954 to Cherkassy Oblast)

The Vinnytsia Oblast is administratively divided into 27 Rajons and 6 cities directly under the Oblast administration. These are the cities of Schmerynka , Kosjatyn , Ladyschyn , Mohyliw-Podilskyj , Chmilnyk and the eponymous administrative center of the oblast, the city of Vinnytsia .
