Patrick Herrmann (born February 12, 1991 in Uchtelfangen ) is a German soccer player . The offensive player is under contract with Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach and plays for the German national team .

Career

childhood and education

Herrmann grew Illingerstraße district Uchtelfangen in Saarland on. He attended business school until 2008 and graduated from secondary school. When he moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach's boarding school in summer 2008 , he also attended the two-year commercial college for economics and administration in Mönchengladbach in the mornings , which he graduated from in summer 2010 with a technical college entrance qualification.

Patrick Herrmann started playing football at FC Uchtelfangen at the age of six and moved to the youth department of 1. FC Saarbrücken in 2004 . In 2008 he was signed by Borussia Mönchengladbach for the A-youth. In his second season at Borussia Mönchengladbach, he was first used in October 2009 for the second team in the Regionalliga West . After a few games in the second team and in the weekly junior rounds, then head coach Michael Frontzeck took him to the winter training camp for professionals in Spain . On January 16, 2010 Herrmann made his first Bundesliga game against VfL Bochum when he was substituted on for Filip Daems in the 79th minute . A few seconds after being substituted on, he prepared Fabian Bäcker for the next goal .

He made his debut in the starting XI on March 19, 2010 in the derby at 1. FC Köln , which ended 1: 1. During the months and also in the 2010/11 season, in which relegation was prevented from relegation, he was regularly used as a supplementary player and was also able to book one or the other starting eleven. He made the leap to regular strength in the 2011/12 season under the then new head coach Lucien Favre . Even after a serious shoulder injury, which he sustained against 1. FC Kaiserslautern on February 18, 2012 , he quickly got back into the starting line-up of his team. Herrmann is contractually bound to Borussia Mönchengladbach until June 30, 2022.

Special events

On August 29, 2010 Herrmann scored two goals in the game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in a 6-3 away win at the BayArena . He also scored two goals on January 20, 2012 in a 3-1 home win against Bayern Munich. In both games he was voted Man of the Match . In the 2012/13 season he was also the most accurate Gladbacher. In February 2012 he suffered a serious shoulder injury in Gladbach's 2-1 away win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern .

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Bundesliga, Herrmann was elected to a “Saarland Anniversary Elf” in 2013. To choose from, the Ellenfeld e. V. and the Saarpark-Center , all Saarlanders who had played in the Bundesliga since 1963 stood. In October 2015 he was diagnosed with a tear in the posterior cruciate ligament after persistent pain in his left knee joint .

National team

Patrick Herrmann ran through the DFB youth national teams from U-16 to U-20 . In September 2010 he made his debut in the German U-21 team , in which he played with Mario Götze , among others . He was also appointed to the U-21 national team's squad and played all of the games in the 2013 U-21 European Championship in Israel .

National coach Joachim Löw nominated Herrmann for the first time on March 24, 2013 for the World Cup qualifying match against Kazakhstan in Nuremberg in the German senior team . In the following year Herrmann was part of the expanded group of 30 players for the 2014 World Cup , but was not finally nominated. He finally made his debut on June 10, 2015 in Cologne in a 2-1 defeat in the friendly against the United States ; he was in the starting line-up and gave the template for the 1-0 lead by Mario Götze .
