Primera División (Mexico) 1959/60
The 1959/60 season was the 17th season of the highest Mexican professional football league introduced in 1943/44 . Newcomer to the league was CD Tampico , who replaced CD Cuautla , who had been relegated in the previous season .
particularities
With the relegation of CD Cuautla at the end of the preseason, the six-year era that had existed since Marte FC moved to Cuernavaca in the summer of 1953 came to an end, in which two clubs from the state of Morelos were always represented in the country's top division. This was only the case again in the 1982/83 season, when at the same time the most successful first division team from Morelos, CD Zacatepec , and the brief CF Oaxtepec were represented in the first division.
Master was the CD Guadalajara , which was able to successfully defend the championship title he had won the previous season. Chivas was only the second club in the history of the Mexican professional league that managed to defend its title. Previously, this was only possible for León FC in the 1948/49 season.
Another interesting aspect of the 1959/60 season is that today's record champions América , who until then had mostly been in the lower half of the table and rarely placed in the upper half of the table, became runner-up for the first time. He added the only home defeat of the season to both the champion Chivas and the third-placed Atlas . América also won at the third club from Guadalajara , CD Oro , and all three matches with the result of 2-0.
