Primera División (chess) 1977
The Primera División (chess) 1977 was the top division of the 21st Spanish team championship in chess and was played with ten teams. Champion was the defending champion CA Caja Insular de Ahorros, from the Segunda División CE Olot and CA Maspalomas were promoted. Both newcomers achieved relegation, while CA Condal Las Palmas and CE Espanyol Barcelona had to relegate.

mode
The ten participating teams played a simple round-robin tournament , the last two were relegated and replaced by the first two of the Segunda División. The game was played on four boards, the number of board points (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of team points (two points for a win, one point) decided the placement for a tie, no point for a loss).
Dates and venue
The tournament was held from September 18th to 27th at the Apartotel Meliá in Alicante .
Season course
CA Caja Insular de Ahorros suffered a setback in the 2nd round with a 0.5: 3.5 defeat against CE Terrassa, but fought their way back to the top of the table and did not give up the lead after the 6th round. In the relegation battle, the decision was made in the last round against CA Condal Las Palmas and CE Espanyol Barcelona, whose chances were only theoretical anyway.
