The Spanish team championship in chess in 1956 was the first time this competition was held. At the start were the champions of Castile with Real Madrid and the champions of Catalonia with CA Barcelona . The first Spanish team champion was CA Barcelona.

The two participating teams contested four competitions on eight boards. The number of points on the board decided on the placement (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point for a defeat).

Dates and venue

The first two competitions were held in Barcelona on March 18th and 19th , the third and fourth on June 29th and 30th in Madrid .
