The División de Honor (chess) 1997 was the third season of the División de Honor and at the same time the 41st Spanish team championship in chess , it was played with ten teams. Master was CE Barcino Barcelona, ​​while the defending champion UGA Barcelona had to be content with third place. CE Terrassa and CA Moratalaz Madrid were promoted from the Primera División. While Terrassa achieved relegation, Madrid and RC Labradores Sevilla were relegated straight back.

mode

The ten participating teams played a simple round-robin tournament . The last two were relegated to the Primera División and were replaced by the promoted from the Primera División. The game was played on four boards, the placement was first determined by the number of team points (three points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of board points (one point for a win, half a point) for a draw, no point for a loss).

Dates and venue

The tournament was held in Ponferrada from August 30th to September 7th .

Season course

UGA Barcelona, ​​CE Barcino Barcelona and CE Vulcà Barcelona fought a three-way battle for the title. The direct comparisons all ended 2: 2, but while UGA and Vulcá each made another draw, Barcino won the other competitions. In the relegation battle, the decision was made in the last round against RC Labradores Sevilla (who would have achieved relegation by beating direct rivals CA Marcote Mondariz, but did not go beyond 2-2) and CA Moratalaz Madrid.
