Primera División (chess) 1983
The Primera División (chess) 1983 was the top division of the 27th Spanish team championship in chess and was played with ten teams. Champion was the defending champion CE Vulcà Barcelona, Asociación Barcinona and GC Covadonga were promoted from the Segunda División. Both climbers achieved relegation, while CE Olot and Círculo Mercantil San Sebastián relegated.

mode
The ten participating teams played a simple round-robin tournament , the last two were relegated and replaced by the first two of the Segunda División. The game was played on four boards, the number of board points (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of team points (two points for a win, one point) decided the placement for a tie, no point for a loss).

The tournament was held in Les Escaldes .
Season course
CE Vulcà Barcelona was in a class of its own and had already secured the title before the last round. Círculo Mercantil San Sebastián was determined prematurely as relegated, while CE Olot still had little theoretical chances of relegation. However, this would have required a 4-0 win against CA Nifsa Las Palmas, which they did not achieve.
