The Spanish team championship in chess in 1971 was the 15th edition of this competition, this was held with 16 teams. The defending champion CA Schweppes Madrid won his fourth title in a row by a clear margin.
The 16 participating teams were divided into four preliminary round groups of four teams each and played a simple round-robin tournament in these . The four group winners contested the final round, the remaining twelve teams were divided into three qualifying groups for the Spanish team championship in 1972. For the Spanish team championship in 1972, the four finalists and the three winners of the qualifying groups qualified. The game was played on four boards, the number of board points (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of team points (two points for a win, one point) decided the placement for a tie, no point for a loss).
Dates and venue
The tournament was held from September 20th to 25th in the Círculo Mercantil de Igualada .
Preliminary round
While CA Schweppes Madrid and CE Terrassa dominated groups A and B, the final qualification in groups C and D was highly competitive.
