Primera División (chess) 1974
The Primera División (chess) 1974 was the top division of the 18th Spanish team championship in chess and was played with ten teams. The champions were the team from CA Schweppes Madrid, which relegated the defending champion CA Caja Insular de Ahorros to second place. Leridano-Ruy López Barcelona and CA Barcelona had to relegate to the Segunda División.
mode
The ten participating teams played a simple round-robin tournament , the last two were relegated and replaced by the first two of the Segunda División. The game was played on four boards, the number of board points (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of team points (two points for a win, one point) decided the placement for a tie, no point for a loss).
Dates and venue
The tournament was held from September 23rd to October 1st at the Apartotel Meliá in Alicante .
Season course
Both the title fight and the relegation battle contained little tension. CA Schweppes Madrid won all competitions and was 3.5 points ahead, the two relegated teams were clearly beaten.
