Ribița [ ˈribitsa ] ( German Kellerdorf , Hungarian Ribice ) is a municipality in the Hunedoara district in Transylvania , Romania .
Geographical location
The municipality Ribița is located in the southwest of Transylvania between the Bihor Mountains in the north and the Transylvanian Ore Mountains in the south, in the historical region of the Hunyad County ( Eisenmarkt County ). In the north of the Hunedoara district is the place Ribița on the stream of the same name - a right tributary of the Crişul Alb ( White Screech ) -, about three kilometers north of the European route E 79 and the Arad – Brad railway line . The small town of Brad ( Tannenhof ) is seven kilometers; the district capital Deva ( Diemrich ) about 40 kilometers south of Ribița.
On the community area of 7,300 hectares, 45.2% of which is forested, the incorporated villages are located within a radius of two to 22 kilometers, on mostly unpaved roads, from the community center.
history
The place Ribița was first mentioned in 1369. A village of Romanian princes was mentioned here as early as the 11th century. Their descendants donated the single-nave stone church to the place; were slain by rebellious farmers in 1784 .
According to S. Rákóczy, settlement of the region goes back to Roman times through finds from mining and gold washing facilities .
There is no central drinking water supply in the community. The water supply is made on site by individual wells. Over 80% of the farms have their own water supply system. There is no sewage disposal.
The main occupations of the population are agriculture, livestock and beekeeping.

In the official survey of 1850, 3,171 people lived in the area of today's municipality. 3,095 of them were Romanians , 71 Roma and five Magyars . The highest number of inhabitants (4097) - and at the same time the Romanians (4070) and of Hungary (19) - was reached in 1910, the Roma 1850. In addition, depending on a resident in 1880 called the Ukrainians , in 1890 and 1966 as a German and in 1966 one as a Serb . Since 1910 the population has been falling steadily, so that in 2002 there were 1594 Romanians and two Hungarians registered in the municipality of Ribița.

- The orthodox stone church Sfântul Nicolae , built in 1417 in Ribița, is a listed building.
- A crossroads erected in Ribi errichteta in 1934 in memory of the fallen insurgents of 1784 is a listed building.
- The wooden church Cuvioasa Paraschiva , built in 1763 in the incorporated village of Ribicioara ( cellar ), renovated in 2009, is a listed building.
- The wooden churches Adormirea Maicii Domnului in the incorporated village of Dumbrava de Jos and the Naşterea Domnului in Dumbrava de Sus were built in the 19th century, are plastered inside, without paintings and are under monument protection.
- In the incorporated village of Crişan (outdated "Vaca"; cow village ) the monastery of the same name was built in the 17th century, destroyed several times over the years, and was rebuilt in 1992 (and the Naşterea Maicii Domnului church ).
- The childhood home of Gheorghe Crișan (also called Marcu Giurgiu ) - now a museum - was built in the 18th century and renovated in 1978. The museum, whose thatched roof was damaged in 2008, and the bust of Crișan in the museum courtyard, erected in 1934 by Marcel Olinescu, are listed as historical monuments.
- The Sfântul Nicolae Church, built in the 19th century in the incorporated village of Uibăreşti (ung. Újbáresd ), is a listed building.
