Burjuc ( Hungarian Burzsuk ) is a municipality in the Hunedoara district in Transylvania , Romania .

Geographical location

Location of Burjuc in Hunedoara County

The municipality of Burjuc is located in the southwest of Transylvania, southwest of the Transylvanian Ore Mountains ( Munții Metaliferi ), in the historical region of Hunyad County ( Eisenmarkt County ) in the Marosillye district . On the river Mureș ( Mieresch ), the European route 68 and the double-track railway line Arad-Alba Iulia , the place is about 40 kilometers west of the district capital Deva ( Diemrich ).

The villages of the municipality are except the village of Tisa (ung. Tisza ), on the right side of the Mureș. The connection from Tisa to the community center is ensured by a simple boat.

history

The place Burjuc was first mentioned in 1468. However, the history of settlement in the region - according to reports by G. Téglás and M. Roska u. a. - back to the Early Bronze Age . In the case of archaeological finds in the incorporated villages of Brădățel and Tisa , corresponding objects were discovered.

The main occupations of the population are agriculture and livestock .

population

In 1850 there were 3261 inhabitants on the territory of the municipality. 3221 of them were Romanians , 36 Roma - at the same time the highest number -, one German and three others. The largest population (3557) of the municipality - and at the same time that of the Romanians (3485) and that of the Hungarians (64) - was determined in 1910. The highest number of Romanian Germans (19) was registered in 1880. In addition, one resident referred to himself as a Slovak in 1956 .

Attractions

  • The wooden church Adormirea Maicii Domnului of the incorporated village Brădățel (ung. Bradacsel ), built in the 19th century, is a listed building.
  • The wooden church Sfinții Arhangheli of the incorporated village of Tătărăşti ( Tatarsdorf ), built in the 18th century. In the same village there is an Orthodox church built in 1993 .
  • The wooden church Pogorârea Sfântului Duh , built in 1748 in the village of Chelmac ( Kelmak , Kr. Arad ), was dismantled in 1815 and rebuilt in the incorporated village of Tisa . It is a listed building.
