Boșorod [ ˈboʃorod ] ( German  Bosendorf , Hungarian Bosorod ) is a municipality in the Hunedoara district in Transylvania , Romania .

The place is also known under the Hungarian name Felkitid .

Geographical location

Location of Boșorod in Hunedoara County

The municipality is located in the historical region of the Hatzeger Land ( Țara Hațegului ), in the northwestern foothills of the Șureanu Mountains . In the southern half of the Hunedoara district on the district road ( drum județean ) DJ 668A, the place is about 12 kilometers southeast of the next town of Călan ( Klandorf ); the district capital Deva ( Diemrich ) is about 32 kilometers to the northwest. On an area of ​​12,677 hectares, the community with its nine villages and hamlets extends in a mountainous landscape from 308 to 987 m above sea level . Alun ( Nussdorf ) is at its highest .

history

The place with its extensive forest areas, which belonged to Hunedoara Castle in the Middle Ages , was first mentioned in a document in 1377. Later the scattered settlements Luncani ( Wiesendorf ) and Grădiştea de Munte (Gem. Orăştioara de Sus ) emerged here. However, according to findings in the Cioclovina cave , settlement in the region dates back to the Stone Age . A treasure made of bronze jewelry (approx. 2500 years old) was found here.

The main occupations of the population are agriculture, fruit growing, wood processing and animal husbandry.

At the 1850 census, there were 2550 people in the area that is now the municipality. 2412 of them were Romanians , 74 Hungarians and 64 others (55 of them Roma ). The highest population (3535) was reached in 1910. In 2002, 2257 people were counted, 2253 of them Romanians and four Hungarians. The highest number of Romanians (3352) was counted in 1966, that of Hungarians (104) and Germans (35) in 1880 and that of Roma in 1850. In addition, eight in 1890, 33 in 1910 and one in 1966 identified themselves as Ukrainians .

Attractions

  • The community is the starting point for the Grădiște-Cioclovina nature reserve .
  • In the south-east of the village of Luncani a Dacian fortress - called Cetatea Jidovilor - was found during archaeological excavations in 1949 ; is under monument protection.
  • The Cioclovina cave near the village of the same name Cioclovina is according to various sources 430 meters or 763 meters long, here the mineral adrealite occurs.
  • The wooden church Adormirea Maicii Domnului in the village of Luncani and the stone church in Chitid , built in the 18th century, are listed monuments.
