Gurasada (outdated Gura-Sadeiu ; German  Zaadt , Hungarian Guraszáda ) is a municipality in the Hunedoara district in Transylvania , Romania .

Geographical location

Location of Gurasada in Hunedoara County

The municipality of Gurasada is located on the stream of the same name - a right tributary of the Mureș ( Mieresch ) - in southwest Transylvania at the foothills of the Transylvanian Ore Mountains . In the vicinity of the scattered settlement Boiu de Sus ( upper Ochsendorf ), the mountain rises Gorgan ( 46 ° 2 '  N , 22 ° 34'  O ). Located on the European route 68 and the double-track railway line Arad – Alba Iulia , the place is about 30 kilometers west of the district capital Deva ( Diemrich ). On an area of ​​9,295 hectares and with a difference in altitude of 480 meters, the ten incorporated villages, hamlets and individual settlements are 2-9 km away from Gurasada. 54% of the community area is forested; 37% is used for agriculture.

Gurasada, the center of a Romanian principality from the 11th century, was first mentioned in 1292 under the name Zad .

A scraper from the Mesolithic period was found in the area of ​​the place, but M. Roska was unsure of its timing .

The main occupations of the population are agriculture, livestock and wood processing. Due to the occurrence of bentonite in the area of ​​the municipality, this rock was also extracted. Due to the reduced demand, limestone has been processed as a micronized powder since 2007 .

At the 1850 census, 4173 people lived in the area of ​​today's municipality. 4066 of them were Romanians , five Hungarians , four Germans and 98 Roma . The highest population (4875) - and at the same time that of the Romanians (4742) and that of the Hungarians (105) - was reached in 1910. The highest number of Germans (16) was counted in 1880 and 1900 and that of Roma in 1850. In addition, in 1930 one resident referred to himself as a Ukrainian , a Serb and a Slovak . One of the latter was also registered in 1956. In 2002 only 1,783 people lived in the municipality of Gurasada, 1,769 of whom were Romanians, eleven Hungarians, one German, one Rome and one Bulgarian .

The Klobosisky villa
  • The church of Sf. Arhanghel Mihail ( 45 ° 57 ′  N , 22 ° 35 ′  E , German Archangel Michael ), built in the 13th century, is a stone cross structure with three round apses on the cross arms. The older part of the church, with a rectangular shape and a vaulted ceiling - unique in this form in Transylvania - was built with water-attracting mortar. The bell tower is above the vestibule, the side aisles were added in 1820. The top of the two layers of paint dates from 1765, was painted by the masters Ioan from Deva and Nocolae from Piteşti and provided with Cyrillic inscriptions. In the cemetery around the church you can see old stone crosses. The church is located on Europastraße and is a listed building. 
  • The Villa Klobosisky and the 2.5 hectare property with rare trees and bushes, built in the 19th century, are listed.
  • The wooden church Cuvioasa Paraschiva in the village of Boiu de Jos ( Unter-Oxendorf ), built in the 17th century, is a listed building.
  • The ruins of a castle between the 1st century BC Christ and 2nd century AD built on the area of ​​the two-kilometer-long street village of Câmpuri-Surduc ( Thalfeld ) called La Mănăstire by the locals , are under monument protection.
  • The wooden house of Andrica Sinefta in the scattered settlement Boiu de Sus, built in the 19th century, is a listed building.
  • The wooden church Sf. Arhangheli of the village of Cărmăzăneşti , built in 1725, is a listed building.
  • The wooden church Sf. Arhangheli of Dănuleşti ( Danuleschd ), built at the end of the 17th or beginning of the 18th century, is a listed building.
