history
The settlement of Söll goes back to the year 600 AD. Old farms with the name “-ing” prove the age of the community. The Höfe (Nieder-) Straß ( "Strazz" ) in the Söller district of Pirchmoos are mentioned for the first time in a document in the years 1153–1156 in a traditional note from the Herrenchiemsee Monastery . The first mention of the place but closed only in 1217 , as one the Bishopric of Chiemsee has set. At that time the name was “Sel”, then in 1480 “Seel” and from 1615 “Söll”. The name “Sel” probably comes from the Middle High German word “selida”, which means something like hostel , place or house .
In 1342 the Tyrolean princess Margarete Maultasch received the dishes Kufstein , Rattenberg and Kitzbühel as a "morning gift". Presumably the princess occasionally stayed in Söll to hunt , because the construction methods and various documents on Juffing on the Paisslberg indicate this.
In 1504 Söll finally came to Tyrol . The then rural village was largely spared from wars due to the poorly developed traffic routes , but conflicts broke out in the Tyrolean struggle for freedom in 1809 . A plaque at the hero monument in the Schnapfwald reports more precisely. Söll was under Bavarian administration until 1814, after which the village came back to Tyrol as a result of the Congress of Vienna .
Towards the end of the Second World War it became dangerous again for the community of Söll. Colonel-General Georg Ritter von Hengl ordered in Söll to stop an advancing US army. Local residents went to the mountains when the last line of defense was built in the village. When the battle finally broke out, some US tanks were destroyed. Finally, the order was given to stop the fire, and Söll escaped a major catastrophe. On May 7, 1945, Ritter von Hengl surrendered at the Post Inn.
Tourism moved into the community since the 1950s . As early as 1953 , 250 guests spent their summer holidays here. In 1959 Lift AG was founded and the first lift was built on the Hohe Salve . When the tourist association was founded in later years, more and more visitors came every year and tourism experienced another great boom.
coat of arms
Blazon : "In red a black hawk turned left with a silver neck mark, with silver-coated spread wings, silver-coated thrust and silver catch sitting on a green branch."
The coat of arms recalls the seal of the earliest known pastor of Söll, Heinrich von Habichowe, from the Year 1287 and thus also reminds of the old age of the parish, which dates back to the middle of the 8th century.

Economy / tourism
With around 580,000 overnight stays (2018) and around 4,000 guest beds, Söll is an up-and-coming tourist community; agriculture also plays a certain role.
- Farmer's market Z'sammkemma: Especially in the high season there are many events, for example the “Z'sammkemma”, a kind of farmer's market that brings the many handicrafts from the region closer.
- From Söll there is a connection to the Hohe Salve : A first gondola lift (Hochsöll gondola lift) leads to Hochsöll. After changing to another gondola (Hohe Salve gondola), you reach the Hohe Salve.
- In winter, this gondola connection offers entry into the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental . From Hochsöll a valley run leads back to the valley station. On some days of the week it is illuminated for night skiing for skiers and tobogganists.
- The gondola lift is also operated in summer. The Hexenwasser , an adventure park with a barefoot path , game reserve, witch forest, souvenir shop and various water games and Kneipp pools is located at the middle station in Hochsöll on an area of around 600 meters .
- Fishing in summer and ice skating in winter: In the municipality of Söll is the 9,200 m², four meter deep moor lake , which is used for fishing in summer and for ice skating and curling in winter .
- Ahornsee - bathing lake: Since summer 2012 the Ahornsee, a 10,000 m² snow-making pond, can be used as a bathing lake in summer. The local indoor and outdoor swimming pool (Panoramabad Söll) was demolished, so the Ahornsee Söll is the only place to swim. The municipality does not have an indoor or outdoor swimming pool.
traffic
- Street: Söll is located on the busy Loferer Straße B 178 from Wörgl to Salzburg. Söll is located on one of the busiest traffic routes in Austria. Since there is a lot of transit traffic on Loferer Straße B 178, the re-routing of the street should help improve the quality of life in Söll. The environmentally friendly redesign has led to an improvement in traffic safety. However, since the street was reopened in October 2012, the place has been confronted with massive levels of traffic noise. Compared to the old course of the road, the noise level increased by up to 15 decibels . The currently planned improvement measures should reduce the noise level by only 3 decibels. Since this in no way restores the citizens' original quality of life, an urgent motion has been preoccupying the Tyrolean state parliament with the noise problem. The media reported extensively about it.
- Bus: From Kufstein train station, Söll can be easily reached during the day with frequent buses. There is also a bus connection several times a day to Wörgl and St. Johann in Tirol . Scheduled services are restricted on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, and there are no buses in the evening or at night.
