Swiss parliamentary elections 1922
The Swiss parliamentary elections in 1922 took place on October 29, 1922. All 198 mandates of the National Council and 25 of the 44 mandates in the Council of States were to be newly awarded. This 26th legislative period lasted three years until October 1925.
The elections did not bring about any major changes. Because the number of seats in the National Council increased from 189 to 198, most of the larger parties were able to record seats. The actual election winners were the peasant, commercial and civil parties , which won four seats and increased their share of the vote. The Communists (KPS), who had not yet formed a party of their own in the 1919 elections, won two seats.
There were no major changes in the Council of States. The SP won a seat at the expense of the LPS and was able to move back into the "Stöckli" after it was not represented there in the previous legislature.
The average turnout in the National Council elections in 1922 was 76.4%, with cantonal values between 30.7% in Uri and 90.3% in Schaffhausen.
Election mode
National Council
The national councils have been elected according to the proportional representation system since 1919 . H. the seats are distributed in the individual cantons according to the proportion of voters on the party lists and only within the list according to the individual votes. The number of seats per canton is determined based on the number of inhabitants.

Council of States
Every canton has elected two representatives for the Council of States since 1848 (former half-cantons : one representative). The elections to the Council of States are based on cantonal law. In most of the cantons, the cantons were also elected on October 29th. In the cantons of Appenzell Innerrhoden , Glarus , Nidwalden , Obwalden and Uri , the municipalities elected the Council of States in spring. The cantons not only had different election dates, but also terms of office of different lengths (1–4 years). In the cantons of Bern (November session ), Friborg (1 person in the May session, 1 person in the November session), Neuchâtel (on the same day with the National Council elections) and St. Gallen (in the spring session ), the councils of states were elected by the cantonal parliament. In all other cantons, the Council of States was determined in ballot boxes, usually on the same day as the National Council elections. In deviation from this, the voters in the cantons of Graubünden (first Sunday in March), Ticino (last Sunday in February) and Zug (in November) voted .
