history
The town was founded in 1505, when settlers from the western parts of the Grand Duchy of Moscow built a so-called Sloboda - a kind of economically independent city - on the banks of the Vyatka . It was founded in 1489 when the Vyatka Territories were conquered by the troops of Tsar Ivan III. ahead so that the place has belonged to Russia since its inception. Later it was called Slobodskoi Gorodok , i.e. Sloboda town, in 1599 it received city rights and has been called simply Slobodskoi ever since.
In the late 18th century, Slobodskoi became an important trading town, mainly thanks to its location on a trade route from Siberia to the northern sea port city of Arkhangelsk . In 1782 there were already well over 100 merchants in the city, processing and trading primarily furs , leather and agricultural products. At the beginning of the 20th century, Slobodskoi was already a leader in industrial production in the entire Vyatka Governorate .
