The 39th Men's Squash World Championship (officially AJ Bell PSA World Championships ) took place at the National Squash Center in Manchester , United Kingdom , from December 10-17, 2017 . It was the highest endowed tournament on the PSA World Tour 2017/18 . At the same time, the women's world championship took place at the same location .

The defending champion was Karim Abdel Gawad , who defeated Ramy Ashour in four sets last year . Mohamed Elshorbagy became world champion for the first time after beating his brother Marwan in the final with 11: 5, 9:11, 11: 7, 9:11 and 11: 6.

The field of participants in the men's competition consisted of 64 players, 16 of which were for qualifiers. Per Wildcard got Joshua Masters a spot in the main draw.

Prize money and world ranking points

At the tournament, the following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who entered the main field from qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. The total prize pool was $ 325,000.
