The first mention of Schokaw was in 1328. In 1387 and 1468 the place was referred to as Stockaw . Until 1624 the village, which became Protestant in 1542, was the Church of St. Bartholomew parish in Sandau . Since the 17th century the place was the seat of a local judge. After the re-Catholicization, Schokau was re-parish in 1624 to the Church of the Visitation of Mary in Ober Politz. The Berní rula from 1654 shows eight farmers, six gardeners and six cottagers for Cziakow . In 1713 the village consisted of 21 houses and in 1783 there were already 33 houses in Schogau . Between 1723 and 1732 the village belonged to the parish church of St. Wenzel in Groß Bocken . It then came back to the parish of Ober Politz and was finally parish back to Sandau in 1775. The inhabitants of the village lived from agriculture, mainly from fruit growing. 1833 founded Auschaer pharmacist Ignaz Piller on the left Polzenufer in the corridors of the Meierhof Schokau the new settlements small Schokau and Triesch. At that time, Schokau had 231 inhabitants and consisted of 40 houses including the three perforated houses.

After the abolition of patrimonial Schokau / Šachov formed from 1850 a district of the political community Groß Bocken in the district administration of Tetschen . In 1869, 220 people lived in Schokau with the perforated houses. Since 1869, the name Alt Schokau has been used to distinguish it from Klein Schokau . After the establishment of a calico factory, Klein Schokau grew and in 1869 already had 512 inhabitants. In 1872 the railway from Bodenbach to Bohemian Leipa started operations. In 1877 the community of Schokau / Šachov was established. In 1900 it had 169 inhabitants. In 1921 it was officially renamed Alt Schokau / Starý Šachov. In 1930 the community had 169 inhabitants. After the Munich Agreement , the municipality was added to the German Reich in 1938 and belonged to the Tetschen district until 1945 , and from 1943 Tetschen-Bodenbach . In 1939, 165 people lived in Alt Schokau, almost all of whom belonged to the German ethnic group. In 1945 Starý Šachov returned to Czechoslovakia and the German residents were expelled . In 1949 Malý Šachov was incorporated. Between 1980 and 1990 Starý Šachov was a district of Benešov nad Ploučnicí .
