The first written mention of the village Male Weleni took place in 1515 in the course of the sale of the reigns of Tetschen and Scharfenstein by Nicholas III. Trčka von Lípa to the brothers Hans, Wolf and Friedrich von Salhausen on Wehlen . When the property was divided in 1522, Friedrich von Salhausen received Scharfenstein and thus Male Weleni . In 1583 the village consisted of 13 houses. The oldest land register dates from 1607, in which the place is called Kleinwelen and consisted of seven farmers and four gardeners. At that time, Kleinwelen was the seat of a free vomitist. In the berní rula of 1654, 18 houses are recorded for Wehlen mala . In 1687 Klein Wehlen became the official seat of the Scharfenstein rule; In the same year a stately brewery was also built. In 1833, 302 people lived in the 57 houses in the village. In 1841 Josef Pietschmann built a cotton mill in the Polzental between Bensen and Klein Wehlen. The parish was Höflitz.
After the abolition of patrimonial Klein Wöhlen / Malá Veleň formed with the districts Höflitz / Jedlka and Zautig / Soutěsky from 1850 a political municipality in the district administration of Tetschen. The Elisenthal and Josefsthal settlements were built around the spinning mill. The localities Berghäuser, Bober and Schimmelwächter also belonged to the community. In 1869 there were 434 people in the village of Klein Wöhlen, in 1890 there were 481. The entire community had 1,130 inhabitants in 1930, most of whom were Germans. After the Munich Agreement , the municipality was added to the German Reich in 1938 and belonged to the Tetschen district until 1945 , and from 1943 Tetschen-Bodenbach . In 1939 the community had 1,083 inhabitants. In 1945 Malá Veleň returned to Czechoslovakia, the German residents were expelled and the village was populated by Czechs from 1946. Between 1980 and 1990 Malá Veleň was incorporated into Benešov nad Ploučnicí .
