history
A settlement was established in the 15th century on the road that climbs steeply from the Polzental along the Algersdorfer Bach to Wernstadt . The Niederalgersdorf, located to the east of the Hahnbusch , and the Oberalgersdorf located above the Haselberg (Zaječí vrch 556.2 m) grew together to form a 4.5 km long Waldhufendorf, the center of which is the upper village with the baroque ensemble of the Church of St. Barbara and the rectory from 1704. The town experienced its heyday at the beginning of the 18th century under the rule of Count Franz Anton von Sporck .
Instead of a fortress, presumably from the 17th century, the landlord, Count Sporck, had a baroque hunting lodge built in Niederalgersdorf in 1700, which was converted into a spinning mill in 1808. Only a part of the buildings has survived; today it is used as a district forester.
A wooden pleasure palace was built on Blankersdorfer Weg above the cemetery, in which German-language theater plays were performed. This was probably the oldest theater in Northern Bohemia.
In 1939 there were 1,754 almost exclusively German-speaking residents in Algersdorf, including Schneppendorf. After the Second World War and the displacement, the loss of population could no longer be compensated and the place fell into disrepair.
In 1975, in an act of cultural barbarism, the St. Barbara Church was torn down and the churchyard leveled, the same also took place in the neighboring village of Merboltice . Some of the statues were moved to St. Anne's Church in Verneřice . To the right of the hiking trail to Blankartice, which runs along the walls of the former churchyard, three large overgrown stone piles can still be seen today, consisting of remains of the sandstone decorations from the church, epitaphs and gravestones.
In Valkeřice there are a large number of Bohemian log houses and half-timbered houses, most of which are now used as holiday homes.
In the southwest of the place are the Klingstein quarries (Znělcové lomy), in which today two quarry ponds are located, which are used for bathing. In earlier times trachyte was extracted in them, which was used as a rock in architecture and was popularized under the name Algersdorfer trachyte . It is a predominantly gray-beige and dense natural stone . In addition, the phonolite outcrops form some bizarre rock forms.
