history

Jonsdorf was created when the forests of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains were settled and is said to have been founded in 1304 by Benedikt von Michelsberg. The place belonging to the Scharfenstein lordship was first mentioned in a document in 1410 in the Kamnitz town register. Under the lords of Salhausen , the place came under the rule of Binsdorf in 1562 . In 1583 Jonsdorf, which had always been parish to Arnsdorf , consisted of 16 houses.

The following owners were the Wartenbergers and in 1612 the place came under the Kinsky counts to the Kamnitz rule . After the murder of Wilhelm Graf Kinsky , his goods were confiscated in 1634 and handed over to Field Marshal General Johann von Aldringen by Emperor Ferdinand II .

In the Berní rula , Jonasderfl is mentioned as a village consisting of 37 houses, eleven of which are farms, two gardeners and 24 cottages. Recatholicization was enforced under the Count Clary-Aldringen and in 1669 50 Protestant residents emigrated to Saxony.

By 1833 Jonsdorf had grown to 139 houses and had 852 inhabitants. Until the replacement of the patrimonial rule in 1848, Jonsdorf was part of the Binsdorf rule and then became an independent municipality.

In the middle of the 19th century, the one-layer Kuttelburg was built, in which a popular excursion restaurant opened at the beginning of the 20th century, to which climbs led from the Wilden and Edmundsklamm. In 1910 the population in Jonsdorf had risen to 1213, all of whom belonged to the German nationality group.
