The Batman / Superman Movie (alternative title: " World's Finest ") is an animated cartoon from 1998, based on the comic characters of the same name Batman and Superman , created by Bob Kane or Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster . The film forms a crossover between the then current Batman and Superman cartoon series. The film originally aired as a three-part special in the second season of the Superman animated series in 1996. Only later were the episodes compiled as a film.

A Chinese jade dragon is stolen from an antique shop in Gotham City . The owner of the shop squirms with fits of laughter, the signature of the Joker. When Batman analyzes a splinter of the dragon sculpture, he knows what is behind the motif of the joker, because the dragon is not made of jade, but of pure kryptonite .
The Joker enters into an alliance with Lex Luthor in Metropolis ; for a billion dollars he wants to kill Superman. Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne has also arrived in Superman's town, trying to do a big deal with Luthor. In the course of the media hype triggered by the negotiations about new types of cargo robots for heavy industry , Wayne meets the reporter team Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Much to Clark's annoyance, there was a spark between Bruce and Lois straight away, and he invited them to dinner, which was disturbed by the Joker's appearance.
In their investigation, Batman and Superman inevitably collide. The man of steel is anything but enthusiastic about this gloomy competition. With his X-ray vision, he recognizes Bruce Wayne as the man behind the mask. He shows him the kryptonite splinter and explains that the joker has a much larger supply. Later that evening, Superman slips into his identity as Clark Kent, noticing a bug on his cape, Batman has spied on him and also researched his second identity, which means they're tied again.
Meanwhile Lois has been kidnapped by the Joker and held captive in one of Luther's factories. Superman rushes to her rescue and is almost exposed to radiation from Joker's kryptonite. At the last moment, Batman can save him and Lois, but the factory is reduced to rubble.
Luthor, who is downright besieged by reporters after these incidents, is extremely uncomfortable to be associated with the Joker so much. He realizes that the crime clown prince is too unpredictable to work with and wants to break the deal. However, the Joker can convince him to give him one last chance. While Superman is distracted by a sinking yacht , the Joker lures Batman into a trap. The large load robots have been reprogrammed to become killer machines and are now after the dark knight . On his escape, Batman ends up in the Daily Planet building where Lois is currently staying. This time it's up to Superman to save the day. But during the fight, Batman's cape slips off his face and Lois recognizes Bruce Wayne.
Now Luthor has had enough of the Joker's antics and wants to end the partnership for good. However, he did the math without the madman, who took him hostage without further ado and now wants to level the whole of Metropolis with Luther's newest model of a fighter pilot , the Lexwing . But thanks to Batman and Superman's joint intervention, the Joker's plan can be foiled. Luthor and Joker's "playmate" Harley Quinn can be evacuated and the Joker himself will apparently find his end in the burning wreck of the Lexwing , which falls into the sea.
So the adventure ends well for almost everyone: Lex Luthor was able to wash his name clean in front of the media after the Joker had taken him hostage; Harley Quinn is in police custody and is waiting to be transferred to Gotham City; According to the news anchor, the Joker's body has not yet been found, which suggests a reunion with the Harlequin of Hate and Bruce Wayne is also returning home knowing that he has a new ally who knows how to keep his secret.
