Hochdorf is a municipality in the Biberach district in Baden-Württemberg in Germany .
geography
Geographical location
The eponymous core town of Hochdorf ( 574 m above sea level ) is about ten kilometers south of Biberach an der Riß , on the western slope of the high ground ( 678 m above sea level ), a plateau directly east of the valley of the Riss , which surrounds the village Happened kilometers northwest. To the northwest of the southern district of Unteressendorf, the Lindenweiher ( 549 m above sea level ) extends in the Riss valley near the hamlet of Linden .
Community structure
The community of Hochdorf consists of three districts located near the Riss : Hochdorf, Schweinhausen and Unteressendorf.
This also includes the hamlets of Benzenhaus, Busenberg, Berg, Wettenberg, Hochgeländ and Scharben, as well as the surrounding hamlets of Appendorf and Linden.

Fragments from Roman times indicate brick production.
In the Middle Ages there was a castle in Schweinhausen. After their wedding, which is said to have taken place near Augsburg in May 1197, King Philip of Swabia and Irene of Byzantium spent their honeymoon at Schweinhausen Castle until September 1197 . Today there is only a paddock there.

Today's community was newly formed on January 1st, 1975 by the union of the communities Hochdorf, Schweinhausen and Unteressendorf.

Up until the incorporation, the communities of Hochdorf, Schweinhausen and Unteressendorf had their own coats of arms. Today's coat of arms consists of elements of these three coats of arms.

The community of Hochdorf is located on federal highway 30 and the Württemberg Southern Railway ( Ulm - Friedrichshafen ). The Essendorf and Hochdorf (Riß) stations are no longer served.
Culture and sights
Buildings
- Unteressendorf: The church of St. Martin with its Romanesque facade was heavily baroque in the years 1733/1734 .
- Hamlet Linden: former Linden Castle on the Lindenweiher.
Natural monuments
- The Wettenberger Ried , which is located a few kilometers east of the core town of Hochdorf on the high ground, is a raised bog and protected forest area that has been designated as a nature reserve.
- The Lindenweiher , which is near Unteressendorf, is framed by another nature reserve and the bird sanctuary " Lindenweiher ". The former Linden Castle is located on the northeastern bank near the hamlet of Linden.
Sons and daughters of the church
- Joannes Baptista Sproll (1870–1949), Bishop of Rottenburg and prominent opponent of the Nazi regime, was born in Schweinhausen.
- Alfons Hug (* 1950), born in Schweinhausen, is a German curator , art critic and exhibition organizer .
