About this picture

Westerau is a municipality in the north of the Schleswig-Holstein district of Stormarn in Germany . In addition to Westerau, the community consists of the districts of Ahrensfelde, Trenthorst and Wulmenau.

history

Westerau was first mentioned in a document in 1310.

The name of the community could have originated because a meadow leads from the west, which divides the village into two halves. Maps from the 17th century show that the floodplain was surrounded by many ponds. The largest of these ponds, which has been preserved to this day, is the so-called village pond. Together with the memorial , the fire station , the lavishly restored courtyard (family Ahrens / Warnke), as well as the municipality's own kindergarten, the village pond forms the center of Westerau.

The history of the village is closely linked to the city of Lübeck. In 1461 two Lübeck merchants, Andreas Geverdes and Gerd von Lenten, bought the village. They bequeathed the village to a foundation to commemorate them and support those in need. Since the Reformation this foundation has been administered by the city of Lübeck together with the corporation of clothing tailors, and since the middle of the 19th century together with the Lübeck merchants ; the village thus became one of the city monastery villages. Even today, several hectares of forest belong to this Westerau foundation .

In 1928 Ahrensfelde and the manor districts of Trenthorst and Wulmenau were incorporated.

Ahrensfelde

Ahrensfelde was first mentioned in 1555 as a taxable village of the noble estate Wulmenau. Serfdom was not lifted until 1805. With the final introduction of the Prussian municipal constitution in 1889, the rural community became part of the Klein Wesenberg district . In 1928 it was incorporated into Westerau. At that time the community had 72 inhabitants. Ahrensfelde is located south of Westerau Mitte and is approx. 1.6 km from the center.

Trenthorst / Wulmenau

Trenthorst manor

Trenthorst and Wulmenau (formerly Wolwenowe) are two localities of a former manor and are among the so-called " Lübschen estates ". In 1555 the goods Trenthorst and Wulmenau were united by marriage as the property of the Lübeck councilor Franz von Stiten .

The Trenthorst / Wulmenau estate today has a size of 590 hectares, of which 70 hectares are forest (Söhren, Peerhagen). A large part of the buildings and the land have been managed by the Thünen Institute for Organic Agriculture since 2000 .

politics

Community council and mayor

Since the local elections on May 6, 2018, the municipal council of Westerau only consists of nine seats due to the reduced population. Of these, the KWV electoral community won six seats and the BIW electoral community three seats. Mayor is Petra Jürß (KWV).
