Aaron (first name)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aaron or Aarón is a male given name .

Origin and meaning

The name can be found in the Old Testament . Accordingly, the elder brother of Moses and first high priest was named Aaron ( Hebrew אַהֲרֹן Aharon ). He is considered to be the founder of the Aaronic Priesthood and namesake of the Aaronic Blessing . The origin of the name is possibly Egyptian and means "enlightened, mountain man, (great) fighter, hero", possibly also "the name (of God) is great". According to another theory, it is said to be an originally Hebrew name ( Hebrew אַהֲלוֹן, ahǎlôn "tent man") act. This is said to have made a sound change from l to r in Egyptian .

Aaron is also a family name. The Islamic variant of the name is Harun .
