Alissas is a French commune with 1,479 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It is located in the Ardèche department . Their inhabitants are called Allissains and Allissaines .
geography
The municipality is located in the hill country west of the Rhone , in the Privas basin. It is located 30 km west of Montélimar and 5 km from Privas . Neighboring municipalities are Privas and Chomérac . In the north, the municipality is surrounded by the Plateau des Gras and in the south by the slopes of the Massif du Coiron . the river Payre crosses the municipality.
history
The history of Alissas goes back to the year 1281. At that time the village still had its Occitan name Alissacio .
As a result of the wars of religion, the village suffered looting and arson attacks by military groups who crossed the town as a garrison in all directions. The church was devastated and damaged in the 16th century. In the 17th and 18th centuries the community became the center of tannery and silk processing in the region.

Attractions
Alissas is a picturesque place with branching streets and houses made of black basalt. Small bridges span the river in the middle of the village. The fountain and wash basin, as well as the church, have been well preserved from the 19th century. The most beautiful view of the municipality is from the Panorama de la Vierge on a rocky ledge above the church square. Not far away is the Cascade de Gournier.
